Welcome to our inaugural post!
The Murka Blog will be full of all things rad! We want this to be a hub of all things real, no fakers, no pretenders, just real stories and convos with people who are being themselves and absolutely murkin’ it! We will be covering and sharing people’s stories about the success they are having currently at life or have had, discussions with people in the creative arts, surfing, skating, music and everything in between, oh and of course, we will keep you updated with all things Murka too!
First up though, we want to tell you a quick tale about Youth Futures – an awesome organisation that are helping a lot of kids! The Anchor Point program that is run by Youth Futures is an alternative education program where young people aged 15-19 can complete their Certificate I or II in General Education (Year 9 or 10 equivalents). This program is focused on helping young people who, for a variety of reasons, have found it difficult to succeed in mainstream schools.
We got introduced to them through a network and quickly learnt just how great they are in giving kids the guidance, support and opportunity they may not be getting at home or at school. We got to hang out with them at the start of the month and had a chat about how we got started, life’s hustles and struggles. After hanging and chatting, the kids got down to it and designed the hell out of some Tees.
We arrived thinking we were the only clothing designers in the room but we were mistaken, there was some absolute talent in that bunch of kids which was so awesome and inspiring to see. In fact, they were so good that we will be bringing out a ‘Murka X Youth Futures’ range that will see profits go back into the pocket of Youth Futures and the kids.
So watch this space!
Here is how the day went down.
Please take a look at Youth Futures and support some an awesome bunch of people and cause!
Keep murkin it YF!
